— DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR? —
| Why am I so exhausted when my life looks fine?
| I don't know how to stop carrying everyone else's weight.
| I shut down. I thought it was keeping the peace.
Clients tell me they're overwhelmed, that they can't push through it the way they used to, or that they're feeling the stress in their body before they can name it in words.
— THE PATTERN UNDERNEATH —
Burnout is what brings people in. It's usually not the whole story.
You grew up between worlds. Home had one set of rules, everywhere else had another, and you learned to read the room and hold it together long before anyone asked whether you wanted the job.
You got good at it. On paper, it worked.
| But somewhere in there you stopped knowing how to rest.
And it usually shows up in the body first — a racing heart before the alarm, a jaw that won't unclench, waking up like you were pushed out of sleep.
— READY WHEN YOU ARE
Hi, I'm Jessica Thomas, LMHC, LPC
I'm a first-generation Haitian-American Black therapist based in Brooklyn, and I built MyMindset for people who grew up the way I did, belonging to more than one world and learning early to manage everyone in all of them. I practice in English and Haitian Kreyòl.
I also learned the hard way what over-functioning costs. I pushed through years of running on empty while my body was telling me something was wrong. It took fibroids to make me stop. Stopping had only ever meant crashing. I'm still learning the difference. So when you tell me you're exhausted and can't stop, you won't have to explain why that's hard. You also won't have to stay there.
— HOW I WORK
We go slower than you're used to.
Most advice for burnout is about boundaries and time management. You already know you need boundaries. Knowing hasn't changed anything. Over-functioning isn't a scheduling problem — it's a pattern you built early, for good reasons.
Somatic work
We pay attention to what your body is doing while you talk. When something shifts — your throat, your shoulders, your breath — we slow down and get curious instead of moving past it. You've done enough moving past things.
Parts work (IFS)
We get curious about the parts of you that took these jobs on — the one who performs, the one who anticipates what everyone needs, the one who says "I'm fine." Those parts aren't the problem. They protected you. The work is helping them rest.
Long-term, not quick
Most people come in for one thing and find that it opens a door to something older. That takes time, and I'd rather take it with you than move you toward a finish line you didn't ask for.

— IS THIS A FIT? —
Let's find out before you book.
This is probably a fit if
- You're a first-generation adult, or the child of immigrants, and you've been the responsible one since you were a kid
- You're burned out, and pushing through it the way you always have has stopped working
- You already feel the stress in your body and you'd like to understand what it's telling you
- You can commit to weekly work over months
And probably not if
- You need same-day or crisis care (If that's where you are, call or text 988.)
- You're looking for short-term, symptom-focused work
- You need to use Medicaid or Medicare
MyMindset is affirming of all genders, racial and ethnic identities, countries of origin, sexualities, relationship orientations, religions, abilities, and body sizes. You do not have to translate yourself here.

Three steps, and the first one is small
-
A free 20-minute call
No pressure, nothing to prepare. You tell me what's going on, I tell you how I work, and we figure out together whether I'm the right fit.
-
Your first session
We start with what brought you in and what you want to be different. There's no pressure to tell the whole story on day one.
-
Weekly or biweekly
Each session builds on the last. Somewhere in the first month or two, patterns start showing up. That's usually where the work gets interesting.
